Growing up, I had the most amazing Grandma! She had made me so many Barbie Birthday cakes. It was her tradition! I think she would have been proud, that I'm continuing her tradition with my girls! I just need to work on perfecting the icing of the cake ;)

~Ruby and Surgery~

I know I have promised a crafting blog... Bear with me... It has been pretty hectic lately, to say the least. A couple weeks ago.. I wanted to do a jewelry craft! I wanted to stamp metal, and make necklace charms! My super sweet husband, got out his tool box. He was trying to help me figure it out. We had some metal pieces, and these block letter things... So, he was trying to hammer letters into metal.. I went to the craft store (Michael's), looking for the right metal. Or maybe, to be steered in the right direction. While I was gone... Ruby my almost 3 year old, was wanting to sit in daddies lap.

So... things are going good, she's sitting with daddy. Ruby starts to fall off his lap. Before he could grab her... She fell... Her knee landed in the tool box. Being the medically trained Daddy he is! He checked her over. She had a spot of blood right below her knee. He gives her loves, cleans the ow-wee, puts neosporin on, band aide, icepack, and rock-a-byes. He is such an awesome Daddy!

I get home with no luck at the craft store. Ruby is whiny, and wants her Mommy. Ruby is such a Mommies girl! James tells me Ruby got an ow-wee. I thought he said, she hurt her face. I didn't notice anything. I thought she was just wanting Mommy..

Well.. We decided to go get some clothes for my girls. I swear all 3 of them, have gone threw a huge growth spurt... So to the mall we go! :) Daddy pushed Ruby in her stroller, while Gracie and I hold hands. We shopped... Picked up my oldest Lydia from the bus... and came home. I wanted Ruby to try on her new outfit. I noticed she wouldn't walk, and wouldn't put weight on her leg.

We went to urgent care. The doctor said, its a bad bruise, by the bone and to ice it. She tells us to go home, and put ice on it. She also adds in ... If it will make you feel better... We can do x rays. I told her, Please do! I know my baby girl! She wont... NOT... walk to me! So x rays are done, and the mood changes in the room. The doctor tells us to go to the Emergency Room, and that Ruby is going to need Emergency surgery tonight. Ruby has a piece of metal stuck deep in her bone, right below the knee. Its a one in a million chance, this could happen... Looking at her ow-wee.. You couldnt even tell. One spot of blood, barely any swelling... By this time...James feels so horrible. How was he to know though.. So off we go to the Emergency room.

They got us in a room right away.

Ruby was such a trooper! 3 tries for the IV, and no tears! They gave her heavy antibiotics threw IV. Thank goodness... I brought her Sissy's Nintendo Ds. It was a lifesaver! Her nurses covered her bandage with the Thomas the train sticker! Thomas the Train is her Favorite!!!!

The ER Doctor was really awesome! He said there is no way we can just take it out here. She definatley needs surgery to get it out. He decided to call up her previous surgeon. (Ruby was born with club feet. When she was a baby, she went threw 7 cast changes, and a surgery to correct it. Now she wears a Dennis brown bar at night, its a brace for her feet) Okay back to the story.. Her previous surgeon wanted to do her surgery the next day.

So off to anouther hospital. We see her surgeon. He tells us.. This is such a fluke thing, and not to worry... She will be okay! He said, the piece of metal is jammed deep in her bone. He says, he is going to dig around the piece of metal to get it all out. He sadly informs us.... The Operating Room is booked full. He tells us, tomorrow he will squeeze us in...

I snuggled up and held Ruby. She was not comfortable... At night she whimpered in her sleep. It was so hard~  When they say, being a parent is the hardest job there is... They couldnt be more right.  James was blaming himself, for having the toolbox in the house. It was all pretty difficult..
So the next day came.. The pictures tell the story...

It was the same anesthesiologist who did her 1st surgery.. They gave Ruby, Versed before they took her from me. It relaxed her, so she wouldn't be screaming leaving my arms. They also wrapped her up in a warm blanket... :) ~

Ruby is doing so much better! Its been a little over 2 weeks. She still favors her leg some.. All in all, she is good though... Her doctor is going to do x rays in a year. To check the bone to see if it has healed properly and growing properly.

Here is a picture of Ruby in her Dennis Brown Bar Shoes. She is also holding her Favorite dolly, Julie. Julie is wearing, Ruby's old pair of Dennis Brown Bar Shoes.   Ruby had worn those shoes when she was a baby. Its also an incentive tool! Lol! Ruby has to wear her shoes and bar still at night. She now Loves to wear them, since her dolly wears them too! Its funny... The shoes fit Ruby's doll, just like they did Ruby when she was a baby!

When I started on Lydia's... I got a call, that my dad had been taken to the hospital by ambulance. My dad was having chest pain. He stayed in the hospital for awhile and had a couple surgeries. Thank the lord he is okay! So Lydia's was made of only hearts. Lydia puts her heart and soul in everything she does. She has so much heart, just like my Dad!

~Inspire me Martha Stewart!~

So a couple weeks ago my sweet husband and I, had date night. We watched the cutest show, Julia and Julia. It was this fantastic movie about this lady named, Julia. She was an average girl, who blogged her experience with going threw Julia's cookbook. Julia was her idol! Well it got me thinking... I adore Martha Stewart! Her crafting is amazing! Who knows maybe, Martha might read my blog! Wouldn't that be exciting! Maybe, I will get a Martha stamp on my blog! My ultimate dream is to get the chance to go to her show! Okay... Im Dreaming! Lol! ;o)

Anyways....

Well... I went out and bought the book, "Martha Stewart's Encyclopedia of Crafts", An a-z guide with detailed instructions and endless inspiration! So guess what? I am going to go threw her book, and post how the projects come out. I am still going to incorporate my own crafts, on my blog.... So dont worry!

~Glitter and Tutu's~

I am so sorry, I haven't posted lately!!! The girls and I, have been Sickly Sue's... We are all doing so much better now! Ruby Roo is still getting over it though..

Anyways, on with the post!!! ;o)

My 3 girls are BFFs, with the sweetest little girl named Sophie. Sophie was having a birthday comming up. So I made her 2 fun, Tu Tu's! I got the fantastic idea from Samsters Mommy, and Martha! Both super fantastic blogs you all need to check out.
One was pink with pom pom's! The other was purple with glitter hearts! I figured the glittered heart one could be Valentines Day themed...

The girls and I got glitter literally everywhere. I glued, they spread the glitter. It was too much fun! :) I am sure my husband is loving the Martha Stuart Glitter pack, he got me! Lol! I know the girls and I love it! For some reason the glitter is so hard to get out of my girls hair. It sticks to there scalp, no matter how many times I scrub the shampoo in... :)

Ruby was my model for the tutu's. I reminded her many times, that Mommy was making the tutu's for Sophie.. Ruby was totally fine with that. I told her I would make her one soon. It was pretty cute though. She kept saying, "Mommy, I a ballerina!" She twirled and danced, it was so gosh darn cute!

The glitter hearts bounced around and didn't stay in one place...
Maybe having one side sticker tacky, might have been a good idea. That way I could have placed all the glitter hearts, where I wanted them to stay... It still turned out pretty darn cute, though!

Ruby made sure she told everyone at Sophie's birthday that, " My Mommy made this!" She went from person to person. It was the sweetest thing! Ruby was so proud of her Mommy!

I cant leave out my other 2.. Lydia and Gracie loved them! I let them try it on too! Surprisingly it fit all 3 of them perfect! Gracie wanted me to take her picture on her horse... She loves this horse so much... She askes me literally every night, if she can sleep on her horse! Lol!

Those tutu's were too much fun! I think the next one, Ill try doing a couple layers of the tulle. More pockets to put fun stuff in. I have so many idea's, for the theme's! A garden theme, Easter theme, Oh and a Pink Victoria Secret dog theme! I have gotten a request for an adult size one too!!! I love it!!! Tutu's are sooo much fun!

~Happy New Years~ A New Year!

Christmas was so magical for my girls this year! Last year was an extremely hard, year for us. Short summery.. ( 2 jaw surgeries that my insurance company said, was medically necessary, but wouldn't pay for) 2 surgeries 3 months apart..

My 2nd surgery was on December 17th. So it was a very stressful time, finacially, medically and mentally. My husband had the weight of the world on his hands... Sick wife, 3 beautiful girls, and working any overtime shift available. We were staying at my parents house, during Christmas last year. My mom bought my girls gifts, and signed it from my husband and I. She even made Santa Clause come. Between my Mom, Sisters, and Niece, that watched our girls... My Mom and Dad, held our hands threw this very rough time. I know without a doubt their unconditional love! I am forever grateful for them! A big thank you goes out to my super, sweet, friend Shelley. I shouldn't call her a friend, she is more like a sister! The brothers and Sisters of the fire dept! When they say the fire dept is a brotherhood, and a big family, they couldnt be more right! Plus all the people that helped us cope and get threw that difficult time.

It is mostly behind us now! My girls have there mommy back, my husband has his wife back and that is all that counts! Im not 100%, but I strive everyday to be. Im getting a work out routine down! Im having fun with my girls and husband! I am getting the old me, Back!!! It is such an amazing feeling! I am so excited to put this year behind us! I want this next year to be filled with Fun, Love, Laughter, and whole bunch of Happiness!

This year!!!! Gained weight, and able to chew food! Well and with my girls!!!!

I just finished another one of Gracie's Christmas presents! Monkey pajama pants, with ruffle at bottom of pants. These turned out so cute!!! I cant wait! Couple more days! ;D

I heard a whole bunch of giggling in Gracie and Ruby's room. Lydia had snuck in their room, and was reading to them. She was reading a Judy Moody book! Lol! So cute! Its so fun hearing them giggle and laugh :)

I have few Victoria Secret stuffed dogs! They are actually my girls. When they have there deals. "Buy anything PINK, and get a free Victoria secret dog." I make sure I ask for 3. My girls love them, and so do I. Anyways.... We decided to do a theme tree. A Victoria secret tree!!!! I save all my Victoria secret bags, boxes, ect... The cute pink gift bag/ or red and pink gift bag. So here is how to have your Victoria secret tree...

Supplies:

(1) Victoria Secret bags, boxes or whatever you have..

(2) Lots of Glue

(3) Scissors

(4) Cardboard

(5) Markers

(6) Glitter

(7) Stuffed Victoria secret dogs

I did it! I finished making Gracie's Monkey Jammie's! Gracie kept on asking me, who I was making these for. I just told her, for a special little girl... Her response was, "Well I would like monkey Jammie's too!'' Then she told me, " Mommy you get a gold star!" It was the sweetest thing. Just wait till she opens it. :)

This time around making them, it was allot different. It went so much faster! I found out, I did some things totally different with the Thomas the Train Jammie's. Not what the pattern said to do. Even though I thought, it was what the pattern said to do... Lol! It all looks totally fine. Its just... this time around it made sense, for some reason. :)

Now on to making Lydia's, Snoopy peace sign Jammie's!

Yay! I am sooo, super, excited! I finished Roo's, Thomas The Train Jammie's! It feels so good to have that accomplished! Ruby has seen me, sew the pajama's from day one. She has said so many cute things! " MOMMY!!!..... THOMAS and PERSEY!..... I LOVE THOMAS THE TRAIN! CHOO! CHOO! You kidding me?..... I so proud of you MOMMEEEE!" Such cute words from my Ruby Roo. I know the spelling is wrong above. Thats just how Ruby says it. She also gives me great big hugs and smooches too! She gives such great encouragement! She just melts my heart! Christmas cant come soon enough. I cant wait for her to open up her present! She is going to be so excited! Now Im going to start Gracie's Monkey Jammie's! This should go so much smoother ;)

Lydia is a second grader this year. She goes to a really cool school.... Its a Environmental Science School.... " They are into the "Reduce-Reuse-Recycle". Kudos to me, for refashioning clothing! Lol! :) Anyways.....Last night was final projects at Lydia's school. She did her paper and sculpture, on The Liberty Bell. She did so awesome! We are all so proud of her.

Last night Lydia informed us, that tomorrow is national tie dye day. She needed to wear something tie dye tomorrow. It was 8:00pm and going to the store was out of the question. So I looked up some tutorials. There are millions! So we tried the basic concept. Twist, tie, and secure with rubber band. Soak in 50% bleach- 50% water, for 15-20min. Then we soaked it in 50% vinegar-50% water. Ringed it out and rinsed it out again, this time with water. It turned out okay.... Her shirt was dark blue. It changed it some... All in all, it was a fun little project!

So I took a break from sewing the pajama's. Gracie had this cute summer dress. It had a stain on the top of the dress. Well with all the awesome blogs showing how to refashion stuff. I gave it a try! I made her dress into a skirt. She loves it! Gracie even asked if I could do that to all her dresses. Lol! I forgot to take a before picture of the dress... So, I put the top and bottom part, together. You get the idea.. I also took a picture of the nummy truffles my sweet husband made!

Frustration and my love for sewing~

I am so frustrated.... The thing is, I love to sew. Without a pattern, I can play with the different stitches and its so easy and fun! When it comes to reading the pattern, I feel like I am reading another language. I wish this came easier to me. I'm making Ruby's night gown. Instruction number 1. Front Placket A: To gather edge of placket ruffle with small and large dots, stitch line, using a long machine-stitch. Press under hem allowance on remaining long edge to meet crease. Press. Stitch hem in place.

I am sure this sounds like a piece of cake to others. Witch is probably part of the frustration. For some reason, I just don't get it and it overwhelms me. My mom is this amazing seamstress and an amazing mother. I have very fond memories of her, and sewing. I am pretty sure that's were my love for sewing came from. Does that even make sense? I have a love for sewing, but I'm horrible at it..... Let me try to explain....

My earliest memory is of me in my crib, at the foot of my Mom and Dads bed. My mom had a clear box full of ribbons and lace and just an assortment of trims. She always kept it stored under their bed. I would always get into it. I remember being in my crib, and playing with all the ribbons and trims.

She would also sew very late into the night. I would lay with my blanket at her feet. Listening to the humming of the sewing machine, it would always put me to sleep. It was such a soothing sound.

When I was around 5, she took me to swim lessons. I was not a fan of swim lessons at all. I would usually cry and beg not to go. It was one of those swim lesson days. My eyes were filled with tears. Not wanting to go to the dreaded place, that had deep water. "Chrissy she said, If you are good at swim lessons, we will go to the fabric store." Trips to the fabric store were always a fun time! I would run down the the fabric aisles with my hand stretched out, feeling all the different types of fabric. I would look threw the pattern books with her. She would always let me help her, pick out pretty fabric, for whatever project she was working on at the time. Even though I loved going to the fabric store with her, I still wasn't convinced on the swim lessons. Until... She smiled and said, "We can pick a dress pattern out for you, and fabric. I will make it for you to wear tomorrow." It made swim lessons exciting! I knew every time I behaved, we would go to the fabric store. I also knew I would have the prettiest dress to wear the next day!

I was a fan of Little house on the Prairie! I loved the night cap that Laura and Mary Engels wore. My mom whipped one up in no time. It was so pretty, and it was my favorite color PINK!

So many memories...

She made so many things, my school dresses, my first Communion dress, my prom dresses, 2 flower girl dresses, 6 brides maid dresses, my wedding dress from 2 different patterns, and my babies baptism dress! The baptism dress was made out of some extra material from my wedding dress! My 3 girls all have gotten a dress from there amazing grandma. I want to be able to make my girls dresses! I want my girls to have fond memories of my sewing.

I do call my mom often, and ask her many questions about sewing. We live an hour away from each other. I don't see her as often, as I would like. But, I do know...... "My mom has installed in me, this amazing love for sewing!"

I also need to put in here.... I am the youngest of 9, (8 girls/ 1 boy).

I have told my mom in conversation about this blog. I'm not sure, if she reads it. If you do Mom, just know you have given me an amazing gift. A love for sewing! I may be horrible at it, but It doesn't change my love for it. Plus, many loving memories of me and you! I love you Mom!

Deep breath... okay... back to reading the pattern that confuses me... Lol ;D
